Targuhl was pleased that he had had his desired effect on the Demon, and on his audience. He was more than happy to recount this tale for his listeners.
The demons often used to crop up in the east, where I have until recently travelled extensively, killing for a price, hunting, finding; basically if anything dark and dangerous needed doing, if you found me, and could afford me, I would do it. I never worked for Demons though. I have morals, for an assassin. In my line of work I would often be approached by kings of small kindoms, overlords, princes, men mostly, but a few dwarves, even a weak elf once or twice, I would often be approached to deal with their problems with demons, who until now have just annoyed the free peoples with their skirmishing and raiding parties. I earned something of a reputation amongst them. I would be very cruel to them, because, before, when I was very young, only recently banished, they were very cruel to me, they imprisoned and tortured me, but I escaped. As I was saying, I would often be called on to deal with, erm, pest problems. Sooner or later some high ranking Demon was bound to come after me, I had racked up a pretty neat tally of kills. When a leader did try to find and destroy me I discovered that it was he who had found and captured me the first time. So, I hid in a tree, I left my marks all over the place so that he would know that I was there, and that he would know that I knew he was there. When he arrived he sent his scouts to secure the boundaries, I seized my oppurtunity and descended upon him in a furry. He was ready for me though, as I had anticipated. He whistled and the five scouts came back, I was outnumbered, but knew what I was doing. I realighted on the highest branch I could reach in a jump and shot three of the scouts before they could get to the tree. The Leader sent the other two up the tree after me. I made easy work of them with my knives, having the height advantage. I could tell that my adversary wouldn't follow his subordinates to death, so I descended on him again, long sword drawn, ready to fight. We duelled, and I quickly subdued him. I din't let him die though, that would be too kind. I bound him hand and foot, I didn't gag him, I enjoyed heaaring his screams. I carved spells on his face that would not let him die, I had learnt them from a witch in the far far east, he was a dark character, wtih a dark death. I then tied him to the tree I had hid in, and induced the tree to hold him for ever. He is still there I believe, and still will be, unless someone cuts down the tree, which is unlikely, as the locals do not go near that vale now, they think its haunted by the 'Cradle-Thief'. Te carrion birds had his flesh and bones, only his skull remains, embedded in the tree, with two frightened eyes staring fitfully. All Demons know my tattoo, I show them if I'm going to let them go, and they tell there freinds. I think in their legends I am known as "The Demon". Ironic.

Tinaldor spoke deep into his mind, acting almost as an outside conscience.

Azrael remained silent after what Targuhl had just told. He began to wish he never asked...
"Yes, let's get this over and done with!"

Tinaldor laughed. " It is not that easy my friends, as eager as you are. We are to meet the other questers, Austin, Aerianeth, and the soldiers, by the black gate, where the demon will be transported to for us now. So we make our way there, and then we wait for rendez-vouz."
